While writing this section, I'm wearing a fitted shirt from TM Lewin, high rise flared jeans from Gap, a low pair of run-around Kurt Geiger ankle boots and a little cropped navy blazer from Reiss. Yesterday? A black, lace-shouldered dress by Moschino with Stuart Weizman heels. Two very different looks on successive days. The only unifying theme was that both looks gave me confidence and made me feel armoured against the nine-to-five: the stress, the camaraderie and the roller coster of a day in the office.
It seems to me, confidence is what we want from workwear. Whatever we do in life, the fact is that we are all in the selling business, either directly or indirectly, as we are in effect 'selling' ourselves all of the time. So, you must find your own strengths and PBVs (Personal Brand Values) in order to make people want to 'buy into' you and hear more from you.
We give out vital clues about ourselves and we non-verbally 'tell' people how efficient we are, how capable, creative and professional, by our personal presentation and physiology. Much like a window display, we have to make sure that our PBVs are 'seen' by the audience and not screened out by a distraction elsewhere in our personal presentation.
